NDT TRAINING & CERTIFICATION COURSE– ULTRASONIC TESTING – LEVEL-II
To provide a basic knowledge of UT to enable a participant to carryout tests according to an established procedure under the supervision of a level II . The course is especially designed to provide a sound theoretical knowledge and practical skill for UT required for a Level II (2) technician.
A certified UT Level II (2) personnel are qualified to:
- As per SNT-TC 1A 2011 Edition is the Recommended Practice for NDT Level II Personnel.
- Select proper test technique as per the Procedure.
- Capable to scan the Part and Detect the Defects.
- Have knowledge of the scope and limitations of UT
- Prepare test report for i. Accept ii. Reject iii. Rework.
- Responsible for care and maintenance of the NDT/UT equipment

- Wave Modes: Longitudinal and Shear waves
- Factors Affecting Velocity Piezoelectric Crystal
- Near field concept
- Beam spread and sound loss
- Single and Dual transducers
- Resolution in flaw detection: frequency and damping
- Transducer selection: frequency and diameter
- Selection of UT equipment for ultrasonic testing
- UT Equipment demonstration
- Reflection and Refraction at interfaces
- Snell’s Law
- Mode Conversion to shear waves at interfaces
- Introduction to Angle Beam testing of welds
- Flaw detection, lamination, Corrosion Mapping, Bolts
- Use of Flat bottom holes for establishing reference
- Compensating sound loss from beam spread:
- distance amplitude correction curves (DAC)
- Pulse-echo mode
- Pitch-catch mode
- Thru-transmission mode
- Selection of Screen Range
- Sensitivity Calibration: Piping and non-piping calibrations
- Distance Amplitude Correction (DAC) Curve
- Weld volume coverage and scan plan
- High Temp Angle Beam Inspections
- Discontinuity Length Sizing using 6 dB and 20 Db drop method
UT Level-II Practical Training:
- Thickness Measurement and Scanning
- Backsurface echo technique
- Flaw detection & Sizing
- Shear Wave Testing on Pipe Samples
